Hello, For the late war tunic it looks like the piping is light green or is the photo playing games with my sight? Panzergrenadiers should be dark green. -Chris

It's just the lighting on the photo, all of the colors came out a little lighter than I wanted them to. I tried to find a "darker" photo but this was a dark as it got.

As always your uniforms look spot on. Great job! Are the photos of a real steel rifle, replica or Airsoft? With respect,
Fritz

Thank you very much! The rifle is one of the excellent Ersatz airsoft rifles. Though I am working on getting a real steel k98.

After not seeing anything on collar litzen in our authenticity requirements I looked them up and caught an error in my uniform so I thought I would share. It turns out that German litzen came in three different forms. The litzen that I had always used with the panzergrenadier green piping actually is, more or less, only for early war. Early war German tunics would be made without the litzen. Litzen with branch specific piping would then be made and mounted to a green backing so that the litzen would be easy to sew onto a tunic when it was issued to a soldier. Example: By about 1940, with the introduction of the m40 tunic, the Germans started to use generic litzen with a simple off white background, and dark green stripes. These were sewn directly onto the collar at the factory. Being generic they could be issued to all branches, were much easier to produce, and for security reasons it allowed troops to just rip the shoulderboards off of dead soldiers without also having to clip off the collar tabs. Example: By 1942/43, these collar tabs were replaced with generic subdued litzen with a light gray background and dark gray piping. Example: So, in short, while generic litzen are always labeled "late war" by vendors, they really are the way to go for a "generic soldier" impression. Non generic litzen should have the green backing and should really only be used for early war tunics or for a "veteran soldier keeping his old litzen" look. I have since replaced my green piped litzen on my m42 with the subdued generic litzen.

Quick update on my impression. I have worked out some of the kinks and am finally happy with the overall look of it. I may replace some minor things in the future, but overall here it is:

Matthias,
The best part of your impression is of course your 1000 yard stare kamarade! With respect,
Fritz

I'd like to see a side shot too. Get that collar buttoned up. wear a bayonet and shovel too. Then it would look more complete. The side profile would show off the helmet decal. BTW, my helmet is getting that 1942 treatment with just the left side decal and a re-texturing paint job. I am looking forward to its completion. Otherwise, you look ready for a tactical this fall.

Thanks! Good choice on the 1942 look with the decal, it's my favorite. Now that I have my m40 shell I am going to retire the one shown in the photo as is still just a hair too tight. It will make a good "cap" on top of a zelt tent. As far as helmets go, from what I was able to gather from the originals I have seen, I would choose either decal or texture as that seems the norm, but unfortunately not both. If you are looking for paint or decals, I got mine from 1944 militaria and was very happy with them.

Although an impression is never truly finished, with a few new additions, mine is about there for me. From here I am going to focus on my allied impressions. Truth be told, my impression is actually modeled after static division infantry in Normandy, but it also fits the 3rd Panzergrenadier since both were pretty generic. Wools: Hedgerow/scout.

Dearest Otto, I had my Mother take a picture of me in my M36 Tunic and my EM Overseas Cap. Sorry about the GD insignia. Let me know when you vote about the unit, 7th Panzer/3rd Grenadier. I'm voting "Ghost Division". I had already ordered pink!
